This open pit salmon bar-b-que was photographed at the 46th Annual Yurok Tribe Salmon Festival in Klamath, California. A lot of the discussion focused on the collapse of the salmon fishery, central to the social, cultural, spiritual and economic life of the Yurok Tribe. The salmon tasted great.

I noticed Dale Walsh also likes photographing in Mount Royal Cemetery, an oasis of calm in the middle of Montreal. Freezing rain covered the trees with ice and then a snow storm blanketed the tombstones. I like the way the trunk hides the sun in the left image, but it peeks out in the right image.

Most of the homes in Verdun are simple brick rowhouses that all look much the same. With limited opportunity for originality in the architecture of the home, the people of Verdun go wild decorating their homes at Xmas and Halloween.

About the Image Quebecers celebrate their national identity on June 24th, the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of Quebec. Hundreds of thousands of people party into the night, and early the next morning when I took this shot there were still thousands of people at the site of the festivities. The clean-up crews are very efficient, finishing cleaning the site by 10 AM. |
