Saints Cyril and Methodius Church

churchDescription Taken on a tripod with the TL 120. These painted churches are in small towns about 1-1 1/2 hour drive from my house. They are quaint and pretty. For this image I had to stick my tripod through a gated partition as you are not allowed inside this particular church. My TL 120 just barely fit through the gate and composing was not easy as I could not see through the viewfinder. The churches still hold services weekly.

About the Image Inside, each is decorated in a profusion of color, with nearly every surface covered in bright paint. German and Czechs immigrants fleeing the Austrian Empire celebrated religious freedom found here in Texas by decorating humble Texas churches with gaudy and glorious interiors. Most of today’s remaining painted churches are second or third church buildings, some destroyed by fire, others, by hurricanes. Of the some 20 painted churches in Texas, 15 are listed on the National Register of historic sites. Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in Dubina, Texas: This sweet little painted church is pretty in pink, with delicate stencils throughout. The banister and newel details are painted faux-finished marble.

Harris Hawk, Hawkfest

TL120 with flash

Every year I go to Holiday Beach in the fall, this is near Point Pelee Ontario, the southernmost point in Canada. This is where Lake Huron is the most narrow, so lots of birds and monarchs pass by on their migrations.

This was my first attempt using flash with the TL120. This falconer is standing under a tree, in deep shade, with a beautiful Harris Hawk. These birds are from Central and South America, this is not one of the many raptors that we see migrating here. This picture is from about 2 years ago.

Lake Huron in February

Sputnik F22

This was taken with a sputnik in February, quite a few years ago, at one of the great lakes. It should have been very windy and unbearably cold. I was hoping to take some winter pictures. But it was warm and calm in spite of my having a stereo camera with me.

Montreal Harbour

Two Mamiya C330s with 65 mm lenses 1999

Too much water in front for my liking but we can see the Rubber Company of Canada, Molson’s Brewery and the pizza is the French and English Canadian radio broadcasting company CBC, and the effects of atmospheric perspective in the blue haze covering the downtown area.

Taking a Call on Paul Bunyan’s Foot

Taking a Call on Paul Bonyan's Foot

The giant statues of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox Babe must be among the most photographed tourist spots. It is a bit ironic to find this lumberjack in the middle of the tiny remnants of old-growth redwood forest when it was his profession that cut 97% of the redwood forest. Many visitors are impressed when Paul engages them in conversation, although this girl sitting on his foot seems more interested in the conversation on her cell phone. Yurok Open Pit Salmon Bar-B-Que

Yurok Open Pit Salmon Bar-B-Que This open pit salmon bar-b-que was photographed at the 46th Annual Yurok Tribe Salmon Festival in Klamath, California. A lot of the discussion focused on the collapse of the salmon fishery, central to the social, cultural, spiritual and economic life of the Yurok Tribe. The salmon tasted great.

It All Started Right Here

It All Started Right Here

I am not a car buff but I am impressed by the huge amount of work enthusiasts invest in restoring old vehicles. The contrast between this 36 Chevy and the magnificent restored cars illustrates how much skill, time and money is required to transform a pile of junk into a winning car. Photographed at the Cool Northern Nights On The Coast 6th Annual Benefit Car Show in Crescent City, California, organized by the Northern Knights Car Club. Triple 32 Roadster

Triple 32 Roadster

This 32 roadster was photographed at the Cool Northern Nights On The Coast 6th Annual Benefit Car Show in Crescent City, California, organized by the Northern Knights Car Club. The show takes place in the beautiful port of Crescent City, and shows an impressive range of show cars.  I hope you see why I titled it Triple 32 Roadster.
