I have included file sizes in the image links.  Please take a moment to check these sizes before you begin downloading images for viewing.  Several of the JPS files are very large and will be painful to download over a modem link.

The images are presented in cross-eye and anaglyph format.  If you prefer a different format or size, please give the Stereoscope applet a try.

Stereo Mounting

Mounting Method
and
Jig Construction

Built by John Thurston
Inspired by Sam Smith

In addition to doing stereo in digital format, I also do it on old-fashioned film.  The end result of this process is a cardboard or plastic frame holding two correctly aligned slides.  When seen through an appropriate twin-lens viewer, the stereoscopic effect can be quite immersive.  The trick is to mount the film chips correctly.

To assist in the process of mounting my medium format film chips, I drew inspiration from Sam Smith and built a previewing jig.  The low magnification lenses mounted directly above the slide mount, allows me to see the alignment of the film chips as I move them into place in the cardboard mount.

The use of the jig has made the slide mounting processes easier and less painful and the construction of the jig was surprisingly easy.
